Transnational fishers’ movements: emergence, evolution, and contestation

Abstract Global transformations in fisheries have contributed to the expansion of transnational movements, as they continuously seek out new ways strengthen their global linkages and find spaces platforms for engagement. As more emerge addressing international concerns, intergovernmental bodies become increasingly implicated navigating political integration diverse actors, such fishers’ movements. Focusing on World Forum Fisher Peoples Fish Harvesters Workers, this article tracks engagement politics fisheries. It explores history these beginning with first steps that were taken toward building an network between 1984 1997, follows evolution into movements are today. also examines agendas strategies, representation small-scale fishers over last two decades. The argues three pivotal developments offer important insights First, internalizing overlapping fisheries, food climate crises, aligning activities demands accordingly.
